Guess What I Found on Reddit...
So I was scrolling through the r/CryptoCurrency subreddit this morning, and this one thread just completely took over my feed. The title was “Thanks for the 20 Bandos,” which sounds like some gaming nonsense, but the picture told the whole story: it’s about some kid who apparently launched a memecoin and cashed out early.
We've all seen this story before, but the community's reaction this time is just wild. It’s a perfect snapshot of where crypto is in 2024.
The Community Can't Decide if He's a Hero or a Joke
The whole thing is a mess of hilarious and depressing takes. On one hand, you’ve got users absolutely roasting the kid for cashing out at what one commenter claimed was $30k. As one user put it, “Kid, you rugged at 30K, you could’ve gotten over a million.” You can almost feel the secondhand pain of leaving that much money on the table.
Then you have the classic crypto tough guys. One user said, “You got to take a long look in the mirror if you let that kid rug you.” And honestly, they’re not wrong. This is the Wild West, and if you're throwing cash at a coin made by an anonymous kid, you can't be shocked when you get burned. It's the ultimate game of “play stupid games, win stupid prizes.”
But the most interesting take came from a user who was just fed up. They pointed out that this cycle has a weird obsession with “onboarding kids” into what’s essentially a gambling den. They argued it brings zero new money into the ecosystem and just makes the entire industry look like a joke. Hard to argue with that.
And of course, you have the degens calling him “the goat of the memecoin cycle.” To them, this is just part of the lore.
My Take: This Isn't Funny, It's a Warning Sign
Look, I get the memes. It’s funny for a minute. But let’s be real: this is a huge red flag for the state of the market. We’re in a phase where projects with zero utility, zero transparency, and zero security are getting all the attention because people are desperate for a 100x lottery ticket.
This isn't about the tech. It’s not about building a decentralized future. It’s pure, uncut gambling. And the fact that we’re celebrating a kid who executed a (however clumsy) rugpull is a terrible look for the industry.
The blame lies everywhere. With the kid, for sure. But also with every single person who threw money at it without doing five seconds of research. We need to be better. We need to focus on real projects, demand transparency, and prioritize security above all else. Otherwise, we’re just building a bigger and bigger casino, waiting for it all to come crashing down again.
The fact that some people are calling this kid “more honorable” than established figures in the space just shows how deep the cynicism runs right now. Don't get distracted by the noise. Stick to fundamentals, secure your keys, and don't let a kid rug you.
Now I want to hear from you.
Is this kid a memecoin legend, or is this a sign that we've completely lost the plot? Let me know in the comments below.
